As speech-language pathologists, we are trained and skilled to work with a variety of communication needs such as articulation, language, social skills, literacy, feeding and swallowing, voice, and fluency. Speech is how we say sounds. Language is how we understand and express words to convey ideas and meaning. Some children struggle with just speech or language but others demonstrate difficulty with both. Click below to find out more!
Often known as SLPs or speech therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists are experts in communication. Qualifications for speech-language pathologists in Georgia include a minimum of a masters degree in our field. Those with the "CCC" behind their name completed an additional 9 months of supervision after graduation to earn their Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). This allows us to practice in all settings including schools, private practice, outpatient clinics, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities to name a few. We are trained to work with pediatrics and adults to identify and remediate communication disorders.

I will have to credit Jamela Robson, MA, CCC-SLP/L from Marigold Pediatric Therapies for writing the most wonderful and thorough post on the difference between school-based and private therapy. As both a school-based clinician and a private practice owner and clinician, I could not agree more with what she explains. Click below to find out what she has to say!
